#ThemeSongTuesday: KAKAIBROS! YEYEYEYE BROBROBROBROBROS! KAKAIBROS!

KAKAIBROS! YEYEYEYE BROBROBROBROBROS! KAKAIBROS!

Yes, this earworm is also giving us LSS here at the Smark Henry offices that this #ThemeSongTuesday feature is long overdue. With the KakaiBros set to defend their newly-won PWR Tag Team Championships against the YOLO Twins at PWR Live: Pak! Ganern! this Sunday, it's as good a time as any to dig deep into their brand-spanking-new entrance theme.

If you already love it, you might sing along to it even louder at the show. If you don't like it (yet), then you might learn to love it like a veggie-hating kid grows up to like ampalaya.

The track is aptly named "KakaiBr0s" and was written and recorded by Tondo-based recording artist Tipsy Kidd. Yes, he was the dude who came out with the KakaiBros during their Wrevolution X entrance and rapped the theme live. Tipsy Kidd is a real-life friend of Mh4rckie, both of whom actually live in Tondo. Mh4rckie wanted to update the KakaiBros' entrance theme in time for the biggest pro wrestling event in the Philippines and sat down with Tipsy Kidd to talk about what he wanted out of the finished product.

Kh3ndrick was excited from the get-go, saying, "pumayag ako agad," (I agreed immediately.) and that he had faith that Tipsy Kidd could do justice to their characters and their team. "May tiwala agad ako na babagay sa character namin 'yung isusulat niya," recalls one-half of the PWR Tag Team Champions.

"KakaiBr0s" actually sounds like the typical hip-hop song you'd hear on the radio these days, especially with the laid-back, hi-hat-dependent beat. The bombast is evident from the moment you click play with the synths giving you an addictive rhythm you can bop along to. And then Tipsy Kidd's vocals come in, where he spits bars about Mh4rckie and Kh3ndrick kicking ass without having to go beast mode.

In a way, it's symbolic of the KakaiBros themselves. They don't necessarily pass themselves as tough guys. They represent the masa hypebeasts you see at Circuit Makati right after a PWR show, but they don't really bring out their angas unless they're threatened or forced to defend themselves.

Getting this song out of your system is as difficult as teaching Mh4rckie and Kh3ndrick proper grammar and pronunciation in English. That's as big a compliment as ever for Tipsy Kidd, who could very well gain a new following among the local wrestling community through his association with the PWR Tag Team Champions. And with the Philippine hip-hop scene on the rise, there can't be a better time for the up-and-coming MC to make a splash.

As for those who turn their noses at local hip-hop and consider it beneath them, Mh4rckie encourages them to give our own scene a try. "Marami talagang local rap na counted as jeje," he admits. "Di mo naman masisi 'yung mga tao kung hindi nila trip 'yung genre. Lahat naman talaga ng genre, may mga hater." But he encourages them to listen to the likes of Shanti Dope, Al James, and Skusta Clee because these rappers' music could change their mind. Or you could tune in to your local R&B and hip-hop radio station, Wave 89.1, which does a damn good job of pushing the local scene as more than just a novelty act.

The KakaiBros themselves were once just a novelty act poking fun at the jejemon stereotype that continues to be ever-present in our daily lives. But once they got their platform, they proved to the Revo-Nation that they were more than just a comedy duo citing lines of Whitney Houston's "Greatest Love Of All." Now, they've got their own theme song (with lyrics!!!) and a run on top as the best tag team in the Philippines today.

Not bad for a novelty act.
