Smark Hen-XT(7/12/19): Bringing The Swag

Title matches on normal shows don't really get me excited. While there have been title changes on regular episodes before, it is such a rare occurrence that I tend to get disinterested because we expect that the champion/s will retain the belts. This week may be no different, however, I enjoyed the NXT Tag Team Championship match because of Montez Ford's performance.

It's no secret that I'm a fan of the Street Profits. Maybe I'm not as much a fan of Angelo Dawkins, but Ford is seriously a Superstar I can get behind and actually see succeeding on the main roster. In fact, I had fun seeing both men on RAW for the past two weeks even if they were basically just backstage characters.

Herein lies a dilemma in my mind. With the likelihood of the Profits becoming full-time main roster guys, the title situation comes into play. Remember when the Viking Experience War Raiders got transferred to RAW? Yeah, they had to let go of the NXT Tag Team Championships. That might not be far off from the Street Profits' title reign. It does beg the question: who's next for a tag team championship run?

I'm definitely positive it's not The Brit-Am Brawlers. While they disposed of The Undisputed ERA during their last encounter, it was probably just to set up this week's match against the champions wherein the Street Profits could successfully defend the titles and that they did. I'm sure Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch will probably go back to their losing ways after this one.

The match itself was okay. It was your standard title defense wherein both teams showed off their impressive offense and ended with another insane Montez Ford Frog Splash. However, as I said, this was more of a showcase for the current champions than the challengers. It was a step forward in setting up a future Undisputed ERA/Street Profits in-ring confrontation as Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly came out at the end of the show.

I didn't enjoy the other matches on the card this week but I did have fun watching Jordan Myles in the NXT Breakout Tournament. I'm eager to find out how the brackets will play out considering that next week' s show will have the final first-round match. I do hope the semi-finals are given ample time so that the participants may showcase their talents even more.

Not-So-Full Sails

  • "Emo" Io Shirai is a breath of fresh air for the Japanese Superstar. I liked the new music as well. I'm certainly looking forward to how she will present this new character wrestling-wise.
  • I'd much rather have Damian Priest use the Spinning Knee as his finish. It looks more menacing and brutal.
  • It was a little funny seeing Boa in the corner twitching even after Jordan Myles stopped kicking him. This is good exposure for Boa but he needs to gain more experience before making regular appearances.
What do you think of The Undisputed ERA coming out after the match? How are you enjoying the NXT Breakout Tournament so far? Are you liking Io Shirai's new demeanor? Hit us up in the comments section below.
