The Grapevine (8/30/19): These Rumors Are S-A-W-F-T

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the week. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

That bit you heard about Enzo Amore and Big Cass coming back to the WWE isn't true:

  • WWE denies all rumors of contacting Enzo Amore and Big Cass to be a part of NXT. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported earlier this week about how the two former WWE superstars were apparently contacted by the company to star on the live NXT. The company says the two weren't contacted and that the rumors have no basis. (Source: PWInsider)
We say: Not that anyone was looking for them, really.
  • There is talk of holding another WWE Draft or something similar to set permanent RAW and SmackDown rosters before the latter moves to Fox in October. The word initially was there would be no major changes to be made to the rosters ahead of the move, but Vince McMahon reportedly changed his mind. (Source: WON)
We say: While this would be very much welcome, it seems like what fans really need is just whatever rosters there are staying that way. Enough of the confusing cross-overs and keep each roster in place.
  • The Sami Zayn/Shinsuke Nakamura partnership may lead to a feud between the two. While that part is still being discussed, the idea is said to be something similar to the friendship angle between Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho back in 2016. (Source: @Wrestlevotes on Twitter)
We say: Keep the pairing long enough for a feud to make sense, with "long enough" meaning at least two years. The two definitely need each other, and they could be something special together.
  • The Authors of Pain could have returned to TV on this week's episode of RAW. There were discussions to use them in the tag team turmoil match to determine the #1 contender to the RAW Tag Team Championships, but were obviously not used. It seems like they would only return when they would have a suitable new angle for TV. (Source: Wrestling Observer Live)
We say: Send them back down to NXT; the three-team division could certainly use them.
