World Underground Wrestling PH: The Third Filipino Wrestling Promotion

There's a new wrestling promotion in town and its name is World Underground Wrestling Philippines, or WUW PH. Little is known about WUW at the moment except for the fact that former PWR and AOWW wrestler, The Machine, is at the helm of this incarnation. As seen on their official Facebook page, they are directly associated with the World Underground Wrestling brand, originally established in Austria.

WUW recently released six matches on their YouTube channel from their inaugural show, WUW Dojo Storm, to promote their brand and gain a footing in the local scene. These matches were shot during a special invite-only event that was held at Brawl Pit Bulusan and include wrestlers from the now-defunct AOWW promotion (Razael and Dabid Rabena), PWR (Crystal), and MWF (Rex Lawin and Luchadonna). Some foreign names also competed such as SPW's Alexis Lee, and former FMW wrestler Ricky Fuji, to name a few.

We reviewed the videos uploaded on their official YouTube page to check out this new third player in Philippine wrestling. They're certainly different but they do contain names you're familiar with. Plus, don't be surprised if the matches are short and minimal because this is just their maiden voyage.

Before anything, the matches available for viewing are the following:
Here are some thoughts I had from watching the videos:
  • The entrances were simple, yet they felt fresh. I liked the idea of showing both entrants doing their motions simultaneously (although I believe this was just for viewing purposes).
  • The underground feel of the place really contributed to the atmosphere. It gives out a different vibe than your usual MWF or PWR show.
  • In terms of talent, the roster is probably small at the moment, but that's not an issue because with Philippine wrestling experiencing a boom, I'm pretty sure they'll be able to train new talents—especially since their venue is at Brawl Pit Bulusan.
  • Perhaps the thing that helps separate WUW PH from its contemporaries is the WUW rules. Like how MWF had their Manila Rules when they were starting out, this stipulation would help give WUW PH its own identity.
  • It seems like WUW PH will be working with both MWF and PWR to fill in gaps in its roster while it slowly establishes itself in the country.
  • I felt they were aiming for a more hybrid feel in terms of their matches. It was more reminiscent of Pride Fighting Championships with a taste of professional wrestling inserted.
I'm looking forward to seeing more from this brand because, as always, competition, options, and alternatives are always welcome in the sports entertainment industry. Having more choices to watch simply means we get more wrestling to digest. It's also pretty great to see your favorite local wrestlers in an environment that's wholly original and brand new.

WUW PH will be having their second show, WUW Philippines: Fight Night 0 on October 27, 2019, at 7:00 PM at Brawl Pit Bulusan in Quezon City. The main event of that card will be Razael vs. "TNT" Greg Bownds. You can check out their official Facebook page for more details.
