The Grapevine (12/16/19): TLC 2019 Mailbag

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the week. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

Here are some planned TLC matches that were axed at the last second:

  • Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Braun Strowman, AJ Styles vs. Randy Orton, and Bayley vs. Lacey Evans were cut from the final TLC card. Strowman is not medically cleared to wrestle due to back spasms; the Bayley/Evans story was deemed too early to see a match on PPV. Orton/Styles will be happening on RAW this week instead. (Source: F4WOnline)
We say: It's actually great that they're not stuffing the card with extra matches for the sake of having matches on PPV. Give TV the respect it deserves.
  • Drake Maverick may be slated to manage Baron Corbin. Someone under the ring helped restrain Roman Reigns on last week's episode of SmackDown, while Maverick managing Corbin was tested out on a recent house show. While he was not revealed as a manager on TLC (the Revival helped Corbin instead) it's believed that he will be revealed on TV soon. (Source: F4WOnline)
We say: Yet another weird gimmick that stands in stark contrast to what Drake does on 205 Live. It's something, I suppose, for Corbin, but do they really need another mouthpiece for him? Unless Ziggler is about to be replaced, that is.
  • Samoa Joe will be medically reevaluated soon. Joe, who had been out since September, is no longer wearing a cast on his thumb, but there is no definite timetable yet for his return until he is evaluated. (Source: Lords of Pain)
We say: Great to hear, but we've come to love Joe as a color commentator—is there really no way we can keep him in this role?
